How doctors helped shape Medicare Advantage Prior Authorization reforms

CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure spoke to hundreds of physicians and medical society staffers at the 2023 AMA National Advocacy Conference about how she and her team have listened to physicians’ concerns about the negative impact of health insurance company prior-authorization processes on patients.

“Hearing stories about people’s surgeries being delayed and people not getting the care they need because of these processes really gave me a new level of understanding,” Brooks-LaSure said.

“It’s been essential to hear this feedback so that we can truly comprehend how our policies are affecting care on the ground,” she continued. “We know that our policies have a significant impact on care, and your feedback has been invaluable as we make decisions.”
